What is the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) program?
The MM2H program is a government initiative that allows foreigners to stay in Malaysia on a long-term basis with a multiple-entry social visit pass. It is designed to attract foreigners who wish to make Malaysia their second home.
How long is the MM2H pass valid?
The validity of the MM2H pass depends on the tier you choose: Silver tier offers 5 years, Gold tier offers 15 years, and Platinum tier offers 20 years. All passes are renewable upon expiry, subject to meeting the program requirements.
Can I bring my family under the MM2H program?
Yes, you can include your spouse and unmarried children under 21 years old as dependents in your MM2H application. You may also bring parents above 60 years old and children with disabilities without age restrictions.
What are the financial requirements?
Financial requirements vary by tier. Generally, you need to show proof of offshore income (RM 10,000/month), maintain liquid assets (RM 1.5M – RM 10M depending on tier), and place a fixed deposit in a Malaysian bank (RM 500,000 – RM 2M depending on tier and year).
Can I work in Malaysia under MM2H?
MM2H pass holders are generally not allowed to work in Malaysia. However, you may apply for permission to work on a part-time basis as a consultant or specialist in specific professional fields, subject to approval from the Immigration Department.
Is it possible to purchase property in Malaysia?
Yes, MM2H participants are allowed to purchase residential property in Malaysia with a minimum value of RM 600,000. Property ownership can also reduce your fixed deposit requirement in subsequent years.
Do I need to stay in Malaysia for a minimum period?
Yes, MM2H pass holders must fulfill a minimum stay requirement of 90 days cumulatively per year to maintain their pass validity and eligibility for renewal.
What happens after my MM2H pass expires?
You can apply for renewal of your MM2H pass before it expires, provided you continue to meet the program requirements and have fulfilled the minimum stay requirement during your pass validity period.
Are there any tax benefits under MM2H?
MM2H participants enjoy tax exemption on foreign-sourced income brought into Malaysia. However, any income earned within Malaysia is subject to Malaysian tax laws. It is recommended to consult with a tax advisor for personalized advice.
How long does the application process take?
